ACTIVE FOR LIFE

My Athletic background started as a youth, participating in every sport I could. My early experiences taught me valuable life lessons which I am grateful for.

Sport Experiences

Hockey

My first passion was hockey. I started skating at 4 years old in attempt to achieve my goal of making it to the NHL. As I grew older, this dream faded, and I learned to appreciate hockey for its fun team aspects. This sport requires intense team commitment and cohesion. I gradually learned the aspects that make a good team through this sport, and I am grateful for it. I feel my ability to excel in a team environment can be attributed to my leadership and involvement in hockey.

Swimming

At a young age I was put into swimming lessons. Originally, these lessons were for safety reasons. But as the years went on, I found a love for the sport. I started competing when I was age 12 where I swam my way to provincials. I then had a taste for the individual competition, and haven't stopped since. In my last summer with the Nanaimo White Rapids Swim Club I achieved my long-term goal of earning a provincial medal.

This sport has taught me many valuable lessons. The individuality forced me to overcome challenges on my own and develop resiliency. The frequently gruelling practices helped me develop a strong work ethic. Our culture as a club emphasized personal improvement which helped me focus only on myself and my progress, not comparing to others.

Resistance Training

Recently, I have implemented resistance training into my daily life. My passion for this started as an adolescent. I was struggling with self-confidence before I found the way working out made me feel. I immersed myself into resistance training, and as an added benefit I was able to exercise wth my family. I am currently using resistance training to enhance my learning and practical application to my education. I've acquired clients, skills, health, and confidence because of the gym, and I will continue to exercise daily and reap the benefits.

Continuing Involvement

I will continue to participate in recreational hockey, swimming and resistance training as long as my body allows me to. Through coaching, leadership, and mentorship I hope to continuously make positive impacts on the sport community. Using my education and sport experience I will look to stay involved with Nanaimo's sport community.
